100 People Who Care Brant hold inaugural in-person event

Local News100 People Who Care Brant hold inaugural in-person event

100 People Who Care Brant, a dynamic local giving circle, held its first-ever in-person event on the evening of Monday, March 24, 2025.

This milestone event was a celebration of the group’s collective impact, having raised an astounding $105,120 in support of local charities over just four years.

The gathering, hosted by Stillwaters Plate and Pour at their scenic riverside restaurant with breathtaking views of the Grand River, marked a momentous occasion for the group, as members had previously only met virtually. The event brought together over a third of the group’s 105 members, all of whom are committed to amplifying the power of giving within the Brant, Brantford, and Six Nations of the Grand River communities.

“We have always been a virtual community, and to finally meet in person was truly heartwarming,” said member Judy Maidment. “The energy in the room was incredible. We all share a common goal of helping those in need, and to connect with like-minded individuals in person was such an enriching experience.”

The evening was relaxed and casual, allowing members to engage in lively conversation and reflect on their shared accomplishments. In addition to the inspiring camaraderie, several activities helped add to the excitement. Margaret McSavage won a beautiful pansy arrangement, donated by Walter’s Greenhouses & Garden Centre, after winning a fun icebreaker bingo game.

The night also featured several door prizes, generously donated by local businesses:

Sara Darling won a $25.00 gift certificate from Walter’s Greenhouses & Garden Centre.

Kelly Lawn was the recipient of a delightful chocolate gift basket from Le Chocolat du Savoie.

Janice Kyle took home a cozy insulated tea cup and strainer, kindly donated by an anonymous supporter.

A playful and lighthearted moment during the evening was the “nickname reveal” for four members of the Steering Committee. These members have earned their nicknames through their unique contributions to 100 People Who Care Brant, adding a fun personal touch to the event. The nicknames were:

Shawna Sharp – The Enforcer, who fully vets all nominated charities and is in charge of friendly reminders!

Kim Allardyce – The Voice of Reason, always the calming influence during group decisions, ensuring our discussions stay balanced and fair.

Andrea Clendening – The Pitbull, for her relentless drive and determination in managing the donation process, and getting things done!

Donna Ireland – The Motivator, inspiring and energizing others with her organizational skills and enthusiasm.

Additionally, a newcomer to the Steering Committee, Callum Thomas, is on track to earn his nickname as he takes on the responsibility of handling the group’s social media.

The nickname reveal added a lighthearted, personal touch to the evening, giving everyone a chance to appreciate the unique talents and personalities behind the committee members who help steer the group’s success.

100 People Who Care Brant was founded with the belief that a small donation from many people can create a significant impact. Since its inception, the group has successfully made 13 donations to local charities, helping organizations that focus on issues such as food insecurity, mental health support, services for victims of sexual assault and abuse, youth at risk, developmental disabilities, and early childhood development.

“Our goal is simple; to come together as a community and make a positive difference for those in need,” said founding member Donna Ireland. “We are always looking to grow our membership, and we encourage anyone in Brant, Brantford, and Six Nations of the Grand River to join us in making a tangible impact. With just three giving cycles a year and a minimum donation of $75 annually, this incredible movement of local generosity welcomes all local residents to join.”
