Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a call to advise of a possible impaired driver in a vehicle blocking traffic on Grand River Avenue at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 19, 2023.
The caller advised that the vehicle was running, in drive, with the driver’s foot on the brake. The caller advised that the driver appeared to be asleep behind the wheel.
Officers arrived on scene and located the subject vehicle and driver. A “bong” was located in clear view of the officer and the driver showed signs of impairment.
The accused was placed under arrest for impaired operation (drug) and was subsequently read the drug recognition evaluation demand.
A drug recognition expert evaluation was performed with the evaluating officer forming the opinion that the accused was impaired.
Furthermore, approximately 27.8 grams of cannabis and approximately 1.9 grams of hash were located within reach of the driver.
As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old female from Brampton stands charged with the following:
- Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code and
- Have Care or Control of Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available contrary to the Cannabis Control Act
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the car impounded.
