2023 Ontario 55+ Summer Games to begin next week

City of Brantford and the County of Brant are set to co-host the 2023 Ontario 55+ Summer Games from Wednesday, August 9 to Friday, August 11, 2023.

Both communities will welcome over 1,000 participants including athletes, coaches, support staff, officials and spectators for the 2023 Ontario 55+ Summer Games.

“The City of Brantford is honoured to welcome the inspirational athletes of the 2023 Ontario 55+ Summer Games to our community. We look forward to watching the competitions and celebrating their amazing athletic achievements and successes over the course of the Games,” said Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford.

David Bailey, Mayor for the County of Brant, added, ““The County of Brant is pleased to welcome the 2023 Ontario 55+ Summer Games to our community. The Games will be a tremendous event and display of athletic achievement and sportsmanship.”

Athletes from all over the province will be competing in 18 exciting sport competitions including 5-pin Bowling, Bid Euchre, Billiards, Bocce, Carpet Bowling, Contract Bridge, Cribbage, Cycling, Darts, Euchre, Golf, Lawn Bowling, Pickleball, Running, Shuffleboard, Slo Pitch, Swimming, Tennis and Walking.

 “We are thrilled to host this year’s edition of the Ontario 55+ Summer Games, where age is no barrier to showcasing your athletic prowess, indomitable spirit, and zest for life,” said Matt Cuthbert, 2023 Ontario 55+ Summer Games Coordinator, City of Brantford. “During the games, participants will have the opportunity to compete in their chosen sport, forging new friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.”

Opening Ceremonies

The Games will kick off with the Opening Ceremonies on Wednesday, August 9 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre (254 North Park St., Brantford). The Opening Ceremonies will include a parade of athletes, local entertainment, video presentations, athletes’ oath, and the declaration of the opening of the Games with the lighting of the Games cauldron.

It will bring in visitors from near and far, allowing you to showcase all that your region has to offer while supporting local businesses, restaurants, retailers and other hospitality services,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport

Sport competitions take place on Thursday, August 10 and Friday, August 11, held at 15 venues in Brantford and the County of Brant.

“I am looking forward to seeing these top flight athletes from all over Ontario participate in the Ontario 55+ Summer Games happening in the great City of Brantford and the beautiful County of Brant.  No matter what your age, the competitive spirit lives in us all and I will be rooting for everyone to meet new people, do their best and have fun,” said Raymond Cho, Minister for Seniors and Accessibility
