20-year-old charged after single motor vehicle collision

Brantford Police Service20-year-old charged after single motor vehicle collision

Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Paris Road near Highway 403 at approximately 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 30, 2023.

Officers attended and located the driver of the vehicle who was being attended to by Emergency Medical Services for minor physical injuries.

The motor vehicle was observed in the ditch, with significant damage after appearing to have rolled over. Signage at the side of the road was observed to have been damaged, believed to have been struck by the vehicle.

The accused refused to provide a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device, as required by law.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was a novice driver, holding a Class G2 licence. 

As a result, a 20-year-old man, who is a non-resident of Brantford, was arrested and stands charged with the following: 

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand, contrary to the Criminal Code  
  • Novice driver refuse to provide breath sample, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Careless driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

Additionally, the vehicle was impounded, and the licence of the driver was suspended.
