The redevelopment of several properties on Grand River Street North in downtown Paris began with the demolition of the existing buildings on Friday, September, 29, 2023.
The completed project will have five (5) residential units with elevator access and three (3) commercial units. Construction is scheduled to be completed in late 2024. The improvements include a complete rebuilding of the external façades that will be accessible.
“We realize how important it is to invest in our downtowns,” said Zach Gable, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for the County of Brant. “The property owner has worked with representatives from the County of Brant’s Community Improvement Plan Committee to incorporate a high-quality design that is in keeping with the landscape of Downtown Paris.”
The properties at this location were vacant and in disrepair. The Brant Heritage Committee endorsed the requested demolition permit application and did not recommend that the properties be designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. The owner of the building was cognizant of the heritage streetscape of the area and chose designs based on this.
“We would like to remind residents that the businesses surrounding this location remain open during the renovations,” said Gable. “We are incredibly thankful to have such a thriving downtown and we ask that residents continue to support the local business community.”
