As a result of the continued efforts of Project Katoomba, a multi-jurisdictional investigation led by the Brantford Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT), a 35-year-old Toronto woman was arrested, and a large quantity of fentanyl was seized and removed from circulation.

Initiated in November 2023, Project Katoomba was a drug investigation which focused on the distribution of large quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine within the City of Brantford and Southern/Southwestern Ontario.

Further investigation revealed the identity of a female suspect, who was located and subsequently arrested in Toronto on February 1, 2024.

Officers with the Toronto Drug Squad applied for and were granted a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Warrant and received judicial authorization to search a Toronto residence.

The following items were seized as a result of the search warrant:

  • Approximately 4 kilograms of suspected Fentanyl
  • A large quantity of Canadian currency and two money counting machines

As a result of the investigation, and subsequent search, a 35-year-old woman from Toronto stands charged with the following, pursuant to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act:

•Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Fentanyl

•Possession of Proceeds of Crime (over)

The accused was held for bail.

Project Katoomba will improve the safety of our communities by reducing the presence of, and violence surrounding the trade of illegal substances. The success of this project can be attributed to the collaboration of policing partners and agencies, including assistance from the Chatham-Kent Police Service and the Toronto Police Service.
