County of Brant Library to celebrate Freedom to Read Week

LibraryCounty of Brant Library to celebrate Freedom to Read Week

County of Brant Public Library (CPBL) branches will be celebrating Freedom to Read Week from February 18 through February 24, 2024.

The Library is encouraging everyone to show their support for intellectual freedom by taking a mugshot selfie with their favourite banned or challenged book. Freedom to Read photobooths are available at all CBPL branches, including Burford, Glen Morris, Paris, Scotland-Oakland, and St. George, from February 18 to 24. Those who post their selfies can tag #BrantLibrary to be featured on CBPL’s social media channels.

Freedom to Read refers to the right an individual has to choose, explore, and engage with diverse materials and ideas without censorship or restriction. Libraries play an essential role in upholding this freedom by offering a diverse collection of books and resources and fostering intellectual curiosity and open-mindedness. Learn more at freedomtoread.ca.

Residents are also invited to borrow banned and challenged books from featured displays at their local branch. A reading list of Top 50 Challenged Books is available at brantlibrary.ca/StaffPicks.
