Hundreds of residents are set to visit the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead in St. George for the tenth annual Easter at Addie’s on Friday, March 29, 2024.
Nancy Carubba, manager for the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, said that she’s looking forward to the upcoming event, and that parents and children alike can expect to have plenty of fun on the day.
“As always, we’re going to have our Easter egg hunt and a little petting zoo throughout the morning and into the afternoon,” she said. “We’re also going to be having a face painter, someone making balloon animals, a colouring and craft station, a hot chocolate station, and as well, I believe we’ll have a food truck out front too.”
The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Good Friday, and families can book in for a one-hour time slot for their egg-spedition. For a family of four, tickets are $25 and five dollars for each additional child.
“It’s really a great deal because for $25 a family of four can come, have a cup of hot chocolate, enjoy a petting zoo, colour and do crafts and then leave with a bag of candy in hand,” she said.
Volunteers will be distributing hundreds of plastic eggs on the grounds, and children will get a chance to collect as many eggs as they can. Once the youngsters have collected all their eggs, they can hand them in and in return, they will receive a bag of candy to go home with.
Carubba said that event is purposely planned throughout the morning for those who attend any religious services later in the day.
“Few things are open on Good Friday so there’s a high probability that people will be home with their kids and can engage in a fun family activity,” said Carubba. “We know that Good Friday is a religious day for a lot of people and a lot of the time religious services will happen at about 3:00 p.m. in the afternoon, so you can easily come to enjoy it with the kids and get home with enough time to go to church if that’s what you do on Good Friday.”
Carubba encourages visitors to bring their Easter baskets and to dress warmly in the case of cold weather. Free parking will be available onsite, and visitors can also park along the side of the road, or in the municipal parking lot just down the road.
Overall, the manager said her and the team are proud to celebrate the tenth annual event and that they have been able to continue hosting events that are aligned with the values of Adelaide Hunter Hoodless.
“I really do feel like this is a place for this community to gather together, celebrate together, to learn together and enjoy” she said. “All of the events that we do are in keeping with Adelaide’s values and the values of the Federated Women’s Institute of Canada in that they are all an opportunity for education, family values, to make nutritious food or share beautiful things. Whether it’s the Easter egg hunt, the cooking demonstrations or flower arranging, painting or creative writing together, for all of those great events, the common denominator is around self-development, learning and growing. It’s something we’re very proud of.”
