Brantford shoplifter hit by vehicle

On Saturday, November 13, 2021, at approximately 1:20 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a theft in progress at a grocery store located on Colborne Street East.
A loss prevention officer advised police that a man allegedly stole approximately $100 worth of packaged meat and then fled the store on foot. 
The accused proceeded to run through a nearby construction site, heading westbound towards Iroquois Street, where he was struck by a car.
A citizen, observing the situation and attempting to assist, struck the shoplifter with his motor vehicle in an alleged attempt to stop him from fleeing.
The two men are not known to each other.
Officers arrived on scene and provided medical treatment for minor injuries. 
Roads in the area were closed for a short time as officers from the BPS Traffic Unit conducted their investigation.
As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old male from Brantford (No Fixed Address) stands charged with Theft under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code. 
Additionally, a 25-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with Dangerous Operation and Assault with a Weapon contrary to the Criminal Code.
