The Town of Ayr was reportedly hit by a tornado at approximately 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
According to multiple residents, they could see funnel clouds across the municipality, leaving a trail of destruction behind, including downed trees, which blocked roads, and damage to a local business.
Waterloo Regional Police said the roof of a Home Hardware business was damaged from the storm, with no physical injuries being reported.
Environment Canada issued a tornado warning earlier Saturday morning for the region of Waterloo, as well as storm warnings for other municipalities across the region saying that the storm could produce nickel-sized hail, heavy rain and strong wind gusts moving eastward at 30 km/h, but could reach as high as 90 km/h.
This follows after Hurricane Ernesto made landfall in Bermuda earlier Saturday morning.
