Nearly 40 people attended the County of Brant Chamber of Commerce’s Summer Games, which was held at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
Sue Morton, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, said she first got the idea after attending last year’s 55-plus Summer Games.
“This all came about because I actually attended the 55-plus Games and it was so much fun that I thought, ‘what if we just scale this down and do it amongst local businesses? We could make it a really fun event that people want to take part in every year’ and so here we are,” she said.
To kick off the evening, Chamber members indulged in a barbecue dinner from Strodes BBQ and Deli, while Nancy Carruba, Manager for the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, gave a small history lesson about the Homestead and its namesake.
As dinner wrapped up, the members broke out into ten teams and rotated their way through the various lawn games.
From Bocce Ball to Rope Toss, Ladder Ball, Cornhole, Lawn Darts and Croquet, the Chamber members were all smiles as they went head-to-head with the other local businesses.
Overall, Morton said the event, like the Chamber itself, was all about team building and networking.
“We’re here tonight to network and to support each other because businesses need to help out other businesses,” she said. “If we don’t have thriving businesses, we don’t have a thriving community and so we really wanted to do something fun for our members and make a little competition out of it. It’s just a nice little end of summer event before everyone has to go back to their regular routines.”
