Man arrested after barricading himself in building

Brantford Police ServiceMan arrested after barricading himself in building

Members of the Brantford Police Service arrested a 51-year-old man from Brantford after receiving a report of a disturbance at a residential building located at Brant Avenue near Henrietta Street on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. officers attended the residence when the man barricaded himself within the building, refusing to surrender to police.

Brantford police Emergency Response Team, negotiators, the Mobile Crisis Rapid Response Team (MCRRT) responded in an effort to safely resolve the situation.   

After an interaction with police, the male was taken into custody at approximately 6:40 p.m. and stands charged with the offences of Utter Threats and Assault with Weapon. 

No injuries to the public or police occurred as a result of the incident.

As a result of interaction with officers, the Brantford Police Service have notified the province’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) which has invoked its mandate. As such, Brantford Police Service will be unable to provide further information or comment related to the incident.
