OPP initiate 90 traffic stops over Thanksgiving weekend

Brant OPPOPP initiate 90 traffic stops over Thanksgiving weekend

Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) frontline and Traffic Management Unit (TMU) members, in addition to OPP West Region Highway Safety Division (HSD) members, conducted numerous hours of patrols within the County of Brant throughout the Thanksgiving long weekend.

The proactive patrols included speed enforcement using RADAR and LIDAR speed detection devices. Officers initiated approximately 90 traffic stops, resulting in 88 charges and 20 warnings under the Highway Traffic Act.

Offences included:

·      Stunt Driving – excessive speed,

·      Speeding,

·      Fail to yield from driveway,

·      Fail to surrender permit,

·      Fail to surrender licence,

·      Fail to surrender insurance card,

·      Disobey stop sign – fail to stop,

·      Obstruct plate,

·      Drive motor vehicle – no licence,

·      Fail to use lower beams – oncoming

Proactive patrols continue daily by Brant OPP members on the roads of the County of Brant. Brant OPP TMU members conduct enforcement targeting aggressive driving behaviours in identified areas of concern. In addition to responding to serious collisions, OPP West Region HSD members rotate among different areas conducting proactive focused patrols.
