David Egorov stopped 25 shots but the Brantford Bulldogs fell short in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Barrie Colts on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.
In the first period, Bulldogs G David Egorov stopped all five shots on goal from the Colts in the opening ninety-three seconds. For the first ten minutes of the period, the Colts outshot the Bulldogs 5-1 before D Owen Protz registered a shot on goal for the home side.
Late in the period, the surging Bulldogs power play unit produced only two shots on goal but couldn’t muster sufficient offence while on the man advantage.
The Bulldogs reversed the shots-on-goal difference to a plus down the stretch in the opening frame with five answered shots on Colts G Ben Hrebik before the period ended.
Just 52 seconds into the second period, the Bulldogs finally solved Hrebik. C Jake O’Brien notched his tenth of the season on a highlight-reel shot past the Barrie netminder.
As the period progressed, Egorov did his part to preserve the lead, highlighted by two outstanding saves on Barrie C Beau Jelsma on two separate occasions.
The Bulldogs penalty kill units had mixed results in recent games, with a 53.3 percent success rate in the previous four games. In the second period of this game, however, the Bulldogs were successful both times shorthanded due to timely defensive plays.
But the Colts tied the game with 5:58 left in the period, as C Dalyn Wakely’s shot got past Egorov’s right pad. Despite the deadlock, Egorov and Hrebik provided a goaltending duel for forty minutes.
The Bulldogs retook the lead at the 2:53 mark. Shortly after another successful penalty kill, C Patrick Thomas scored his fifth goal of the season.
Barrie tied the game again with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, as C Cole Beaudoin scored on the breakaway. The score remained tied after sixty minutes and headed to overtime.
In overtime, Colts C Beau Jelsma intercepted the puck in the neutral zone from Bulldogs D Tomas Hamara, made the breakaway and ripped the shot past Egorov for the game-winner.
