Waterford man charged after motor vehicle collision

CrimeWaterford man charged after motor vehicle collision

Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a collision involving two motor vehicles in the intersection of Colborne Street and Garden Avenue where the driver failed to remain at the scene at approximately 1:20 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

Information received indicated the driver may be impaired. 

Officers located the subject vehicle on Glenwood Drive, with a lone man occupying the driver’s seat. 

It was determined that the accused was a suspended driver and did not have a valid driver’s licence, however he provided officers with multiple expired licences. The vehicle did not have a valid permit and the accused was unable to provide proof of insurance as required by law.

In speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment and was arrested and submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert examination, where it was determined that the accused was impaired by drug.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old man from Waterford, stands charged with the following:

  • Operation While Impaired Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possess More Than One Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Change Lane – Not in Safety, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Driving While Under Suspension X 2, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail To Remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Drive – No Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

Additionally, the accused’s license was suspended, and the vehicle impounded as per law.
