County of Brant to purchase new pumper for Airport Fire Station

CouncilCounty of Brant to purchase new pumper for Airport Fire Station

County of Brant council members approved the purchase of a new custom fire pumper truck for Airport Fire Station at the Admin and Operations meeting on Tuesday, September 20.

Dependable Emergency Vehicles provided county staff a price of $736,292 (HST excluded) and scored the most allocated points for a compliant bid in which two suppliers submitted proposals. Councillors awarded the tender to the company, and added $99,255.00  to the 2023 Capital Budget to represent the balance of funds required for full purchase of Unit 321.

“The truck will be under construction in fall 2022,” Deputy Fire Chief Darren Watson told councillors. “It is expected to be delivered to us within the first six months of 2023.”

Under National Fire Protection Association Standards NFPA 1901 and 1912, apparatus replacement is necessary to provide emergency responders the appropriate resources to ensure that service delivery is maintained to industry best practice standards. In accordance with the Fire Underwriters Survey recommendations, after 20 years of service, existing Unit 321 will be taken out of service.

“Unit 321 was a used pumper when it was purchased and will be 20 years old in 2023,” Chief Watson said. “It will continue to be kept on county property as part truck for unit 317, which is the Aerial.”

The purchase will be finalized during the County of Brant council meeting on Tuesday, September 27.
