Six Nations of the Grand River’s Housing Department received just over $1.5 million in funding to go towards the construction of a 5-unit townhome on Harold Road in Ohsweken in October of 2022.
This project is being conducted in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Hamilton and Habitat Heartland, with construction beginning this month and expected to be completed by Summer 2023.
The total cost of the development is $1,566,304.60, of which Six Nations Economic Development Trust contributed $1.06M, with $500,000 of additional funding coming from Housing’s Indigenous Services Canada Enhanced funding allocation.
The initial cost of the project significantly decreased due to Habitat’s involvement. This valued partnership has the potential to benefit the Six Nations community in future projects as well.
