The Brantford Lights at Glenhyrst Art Gallery will kick off their tenth year on Friday, December 2.
Over the last decade, the lights have become a holiday tradition for many. Last year, the displays consisted of an estimated 90,000 lights and attracted more than 33,500 visitors to the grounds, down slightly from an estimated 36,000 in 2020.
This year’s lights will commence during the official “switch on” ceremony on December 2. The evening will also mark the opening of a new exhibit.
The Vibrant Palette Student Exhibit will include over 400 pieces, created by local student artists. The gallery will be open to the public on Thursday and Friday evenings before Christmas from 6 to 8 p.m.
In addition to the exhibit, the lights month-long run will also include a number of holiday-themed activities for visitors of all ages.
The Merry Little Market will have a number of one-of-a-kind artisans from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on opening night.
The gallery announced a new partnership with The Ugly Mug, who will serve gourmet hot chocolate from their truck on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout the duration of the lights.
They also welcome a second new partnership with Rumple and Friends to host Santa’s Secret Hideout, a children’s interactive program, on December 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th in the Cottage during the afternoon.
Visitors looking for an extra special experience can reserve a booking for Twilight Tea, a magical High Tea experience with The Golden Teapot as the lights turn on.
The lights are free for all to enjoy, but they will be accepting donations to the gallery. They will also have collection bins on site for donations to the Brantford Food Bank & Salvation Army Food Bank.
The lights will switch on at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 2 and will be on nightly from 6 to 9 p.m. until Sunday, January 1.
