The cast and crew of CBC’s Murdoch Mysteries returned to Brantford this past week and were present from Monday, January 9 to Friday, January 13, 2022 as they continued filming for season 16.
Production kept the project a closed set unlike many other scenes for the show that have been filmed in Brantford. Many locals received only glimpses of actors.
Filming took place at the Sanderson Centre, St. Basil’s Church, Waterloo Court, 20 Wellington St., and the basecamp for cast and crew was set up at the Civic Centre.
After arriving in Brantford, film crew spent the following days preparing, filming and other wrap-up activities.
Some roads in the area were closed to traffic apart from local residents passing through. Trucks, small trailers, and shuttle cars were frequenting the streets while cast and crew moved from location to location.
Vintage cars, actors in period police uniforms, horses, and mock weapons were present during the time of filming and could be seen on the streets.
The filming notice released by the City of Brantford informed residents that the production team had obtained a noise exemption permit to accommodate activities held between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m..
The film production representatives notified local businesses impacted by film parking, as well as working with residents that may be impacted by the closures and street parking.
Murdoch Mysteries is set in Toronto at the turn of the 20th century and follows the world of William Murdoch, a methodical detective solving crimes in the city.
