Police charge London man with Impaired Operation

Officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a call to advise of a possible impaired driver who was reported to be passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 22, 2023.

The vehicle was reported to be in a parking lot located at Paris Road near Hardy Road. Officers arrived on scene and located a male slumped over in the driver’s seat of the running vehicle. Drug paraphernalia was observed in clear view.

Police woke the man and observed signs of impairment.

The accused was arrested and transported to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. Upon completion of the evaluation, it was determined that the accused was impaired by drug.

Search incident to arrest found the accused to be in possession of approximately 0.4 grams of suspected fentanyl.

As a result, a 37-year-old man from London stands charged with the following offences: 

  • Possession of a Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act 
  • Impaired Operation, contrary to the Criminal Code

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

39-year-old Brantford man facing Operation while Impaired charges after motor vehicle collision

On Sunday, January 22, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend the scene of a motor vehicle collision after a vehicle hit a pole in the area of Dalhousie Street and Colborne Street.

Officers arrived on scene and in speaking with the lone male occupant and driver of the vehicle, observed signs of impairment.

As a result, the accused was placed under arrest. Search incident to arrest revealed the accused was in possession of a small amount of cannabis.

The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples were over the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration
  • Operation While Impaired – 80 Plus
  • Drive Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Police charge Brantford woman with Theft under $5,000

Officers with the Brantford Police located and arrested a woman after receiving a report of theft on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

Investigation revealed that, at approximately 7:10 p.m., a woman is alleged to have entered a Dalhousie Street restaurant, where she hid undetected until after the restaurant closed. After employees left, the accused stole a donation box containing a small amount of cash and fled.  

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:

  • Theft under $5000 
  • Break out of Business and Place

Brantford Police charge man with Impaired Operation

Patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Wayne Gretzky Parkway, which made an erratic and improper turn onto Dunsdon Street, crossing into oncoming traffic at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Officers conducted a traffic stop to determine the sobriety of the driver.

Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. The accused was unable to produce proof of valid insurance.

The accused was required to perform a field sobriety test, which was completed poorly. 

The accused was subsequently arrested and transported to be evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert. 

The accused was found to be impaired by drug.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with Impaired Operation, contrary to the Criminal Code in addition to violations of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
