The Brantford Police Service has seen an increase in catalytic converter thefts. Through a community partnership with Midas Brantford, APC, and Crime Stoppers Brant-Brantford, it is our goal to create awareness of this issue and work to boost crime prevention efforts.
A catalytic converter is a part of a vehicle’s exhaust system which reduces polluting emissions. They contain precious metals which make them valuable to thieves. Over the last four years, the Brantford Police Service has received nearly 300 reports of stolen catalytic converters.
Midas Brantford, is offering a new theft deterrent technique specific to catalytic converters, which involves a specialized, bright paint and engraving of the converters. Paint and engraving tools are generously being provided by APC.
Offered free to the community, Midas Brantford, is providing a limited number of appointments to members of the public to help deter thefts of catalytic converters. Appointments for businesses (at a nominal cost) will be available in the future.
Appointments are limited and are being offered Saturday, March 11, and Monday, March 13, 2023. Appointments will be offered on a first come-first serve basis. There is no cost to participate. Future appointments may be offered at a later date.
