The Brantford, Brant and Norfolk COVID, Cold and Flu Care Clinics (CCFCCs) will be permanently closed, effective March 31, 2023.
CCFCCs, formerly known as Clinical Assessment Centres, were introduced early in the COVID-19 pandemic to provide testing swabs and primary care assessment for symptomatic patients. CCFCCs supported local primary care practices in managing patients with viral symptoms and served as an alternative to urgent care and the emergency department at the peak of the pandemic.
The Brantford Brant CCFCC, located at Willett Urgent Care Centre in Paris (formerly at the Brantford Convention Centre), has facilitated 140,861 patient visits since it was introduced in the spring of 2020. The Norfolk CCFCC, located at the Delhi Community Centre, and supported by Norfolk Family Health Team, opened in September 2022. Through its tenure, the Norfolk CCFCC saw 2,607 patients.
Both Brantford Brant and Norfolk CCFCC locations will close as of March 31, 2023.
After this date, if patients need a COVID-19 test, assessment, or treatment, they can:
- contact their pharmacy or locate the nearest pharmacy that provides COVID-19 testing
- contact their primary care provider (family doctor or nurse practitioner)
- call 811 or visit ontario.ca/health811 for more information about testing, assessment and treatment
- consult https://www.ontario.ca/assessment-centre-locations for an open assessment centre
If patients think they have COVID-19 and are seeking treatment, don’t delay. They will need to start treatment within 5 days of the start of symptoms. For severe symptoms, always call 911 or go to the emergency department.
For adults, severe symptoms include:
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain
- Loss of consciousness
- Confusion
For children, severe symptoms include:
- Working hard or straining to breathe – for example, the lower chest is moving in more than normal when the child breathes, the child is grunting, or the child’s nostrils are flaring
- Bluish skin
- Unable to breastfeed or drink
- Very sleepy or difficult to wake
- Peeing less than usual
- Fever with rash
- Seizures or convulsions
- Fever in an infant younger than 3 months
