Brantford Immigration Partnership (BIP) launched a new Storyteller Series, that shares the journeys of New Canadians to Brantford as they make a home and build connections in the community, on Thursday, May 4, 2023.
“Brantford Immigration Partnership shares resources and develops partnerships to support New Canadians who are coming to Brantford,” said David Vujasinovich, Community Development Coordinator for the City of Brantford. “We are thrilled to be able to offer the Newcomer Story videos in nine different languages.”
Individuals were invited to share their stories and highlight their experiences of being a New Canadian in Brantford through a series of videos. Each video is available in several languages including; Arabic, French, Hindi, Mandarin, Punjabi, Spanish, Tagalog and Ukrainian. To access captioning in one of these languages, open the video, click on the settings gear icon on the bottom right, click on ‘Subtitles C/C’ and select your preferred language. BIP, in partnership with the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie (WPBGE), is also offering a Newcomer Employment Toolkit that provides helpful information and insights that can help newcomers to Brantford navigate the local workforce and help find employment.
“The Workforce Planning Board is proud to be a member of the Brantford Immigration Partnership to help provide support for new Canadian settling in Brantford,” said Mark Skeffington, Senior Communications Coordinator for the Workforce Planning Board of Grand Erie. “We hope this toolkit increases supports New Canadians access key information and local services assist them in finding employment or to start a new business.”
The Newcomer Employment Toolkit provides useful information to help New Canadians and new residents to Brantford navigate Brantford’s local workforce and to find employment. This guide is intended to address cultural difference and expectations that may impact job searching, and provides insights into language supports, the hiring process including information on how to create a resume and cover letter, networking, apprenticeships and internships, volunteering, training, taxes and more!
