A Brantford resident is facing charges following a traffic stop on Highway 403.

A member of the Brant Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) was on general patrol when a black BMW caught their interest at approximately 9:31 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 2024.

After observing suspicious driving behavior, the officer was alerted by the Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system of a possible suspended driver. A traffic stop was initiated. Upon speaking to the driver and conducting a Ministry of Transportation (MTO) query it was determined that the driver falsely identified themselves.

As a result, Claudette DESROCHES, a 37-year-old of Brantford, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Highway Traffic Act and Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act with:

  • Obstruct Peace Officer
  • Personation With Intent to Avoid Arrest, Prosecution or Obstruct Justice
  • Driving While Under Suspension
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle

The accused has been released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brantford on February 15, 2024.
