Brant County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), with assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Highway Safety Division and West Region T.I.M.E. (Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement), has laid additional charges following an investigation into a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) that struck an overpass on Highway 403 on March 10, 2025.

Following further investigation, charges have been laid under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) against both the driver and the company responsible for the vehicle.

Driver Charges:

  • Drive While Under Suspension
  • Operate CMV with Load Not Secured as Prescribed
  • Overwidth Load
  • Overheight Vehicle

Company Charges:

  • Permit Operation of CMV with Load Not Secured as Prescribed
  • Permit Overwidth Load
  • Permit Overheight Vehicle
  • Permit Unlicensed Person to Drive a CMV

The investigation began after a transport truck carrying an excavator struck the bottom of a bridge structure, resulting in debris falling onto the roadway, striking another vehicle. No injuries were reported.

The Brant County OPP reminds all commercial vehicle operators and carriers of the importance of load securement, height clearance checks, and compliance with licensing requirements to ensure road safety and prevent infrastructure damage.
