The Brantford-Brant Ontario NDP Executive announced their support for the City of Brantford’s request for expansion of the Metrolinx GO train service on Thursday, November 9, 2023.
The NDP, both federal and provincial, have long been advocates for the expansion and benefits of publicly owned transit networks.
“The reliability and affordability of passenger rail will be of great benefit to the constituents of Brantford-Brant for daily commuting, travel around the province, and the increased tourism activity which would benefit the riding,” said Harvey Bischof of the Brantford-Brant NDP.
“With significant growth projected for the City of Brantford and surrounding County of Brant over the next three decades, the expansion of GO Train service must not be delayed. The reduction of carbon emissions arising from rail expansion, in the midst of a climate crisis, also speaks to the urgency of moving forward with this project,” continued Bischof.
“The City of Brantford and Brant County are to be commended for working to bolster liveability, prosperity, and environmental responsibility through passenger rail service. We call on all parties at Queen’s Park to support this vital expansion,” Bischof concluded.
