Brantford Immigration Partnership invites new Canadians to share their stories

Local NewsBrantford Immigration Partnership invites new Canadians to share their stories

The Brantford Immigration Partnership (BIP) invites Brantford residents who have moved to Canada in the last 15 years to share their written and/or video stories as part of the Telling Our Stories: Voices of New Canadians campaign. The deadline to submit a story is Thursday, April 14, 2022. Submissions that meet the criteria will receive a $25 gift card as a token of appreciation for participating in this campaign. To strengthen the voices of new Canadians in Brantford, select participants may also be asked to share their story in a future BIP video production.

Storytelling has the power to build connections and shed light on the challenges and triumphs experienced by new Canadians arriving to the community. This campaign aims to build a deeper understanding of the unique perspectives of local immigrants, by collecting and sharing these stories.

“Through stories, we pass on invaluable knowledge to our neighbours and new generations of immigrants,” says Diego Aguilar, local newcomer and member of the BIP Network, “This gift builds empathy and connects the past to future generations of newcomers to Brantford and Canada.”

Newcomer residents are encouraged to submit your 200 to 400-word written story in any language or submit a video using Dropbox. Videos are preferred in an MP4 and landscape format where possible. Submitted stories who meet the criteria and provide their contact information will receive a $25 gift card, with our thanks. Deadline for submissions is Thursday, April 14, 2022.

Please direct any questions by calling 519-759-4150 or emailing bip@brantford.ca. More information can be found at Brantford.ca/BIP. You can also join the conversation in the BIP Facebook group.

The BIP launched in November 2020 to help build a better understanding of the unique perspectives of immigrants, strengthen community partnerships to enhance services, and celebrate cultural diversity within our city. This is a valuable opportunity to recognize local newcomers and share how they contribute to the economic, social, civic, and cultural growth of Brantford.
