A Brantford landlord has been fined $295 plus court costs for multiple violations of the Ontario Fire Code when Brantford Fire responded to a fire-related incident at the property.

Balbir Panag, owner of 379 Darling St, Unit 6, of Brantford, Ontario pleaded guilty to two fire code violations found during a fire incident that took place at the residential property on December 3, 2023. The violations include:

  • Failure to install smoke alarm where required.
  • Failure to install carbon monoxide alarm where required.

On April 3, 2025, in Provincial Offences Court, Balbir Panag was fined $295 plus court costs for failing to install a smoke alarm and a suspended sentence for failing to install a carbon monoxide alarm.

The Brantford Fire Department reminds landlords and homeowners that they are required to be in compliance with the Ontario Fire Code at all times and failure to do so can result in tickets or Part 3 charges under the Provincial Offences Act.
