Police are investigating a robbery in downtown Brantford, where three people were injured during a shooting on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Officers say at around 5:30 p.m. they responded to a robbery in progress in the area of Colborne and Alfred Streets. Police provided CHCH News the address of the Downtown Pawnbrokers, but did not confirm if the robbery took place inside the building.

Investigators say during the robbery two people had been shot and a third person was assaulted.

Emergency crews found three people who had sustained serious injuries and transported them to hospital. Police reported that they were in stable condition as of 8:30 p.m.

The department has not disclosed if the injured were staff or shoppers.

Officers say they have arrested one man in connection to the robbery, and are looking for outstanding suspect or suspects in the area.

The K9 Unit was at the scene at one point during the investigation to help with the search, information on the suspect is not available at this time.

It is also unclear if a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Police say there is no concern for public safety at this time. Portions of Colborne Street between Alfred and Clarence Streets have been blocked off while the investigation continues.

They are asking people to stay away from the immediate area unless absolutely necessary. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
