Bulldogs offensive woes continue in loss to Guelph Storm

Brantford BulldogsBulldogs offensive woes continue in loss to Guelph Storm

Despite a great goaltending effort from David Egorov, the Brantford Bulldogs had another rough performance on home ice as they dropped their fourth straight game by the score of 4-1 to the Guelph Storm on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Both sides played with a conservative tempo during the first twenty minutes. Both Egorov and Storm G Brayden Gillespie kept a clean sheet in the opening frame with eight saves each.

The Bulldogs showed why they’re the Ontario Hockey League’s worst powerplay in the first period. On both occasions, the team only combined two shots on goal and was ineffective in generating opportunities.

In the second period, the Storm scored first on the powerplay. D Daniil Skvortsov took advantage of a rebound in front of the Bulldogs net, and his shot just got past the sprawling Egorov for the goal. Guelph looked to extend their lead with 13:48 on the breakaway opportunity by C Parker Snelgrove, but Egorov made the crucial save.

Although heavily outshot for most of the period, Brantford finally got the equalizer. With under three minutes remaining, D Owen Protz made the great feed in front of the Storm goal to C Patrick Thomas, who delivered the one-timer past Gillespie for his third goal of the season.

Backed by the solid goaltending by Egorov, the Bulldogs went into the second intermission with the game tied at one.

Guelph retook the lead for good early in the third period at 8:37. An untimely error in the neutral zone by the Bulldogs led to the goal on a sniper from C Jett Luchanko.

RW Charlie Paquette provided insurance for the visitors with 9:45 left as his shot bounced off the back of Egorov at the Bulldogs crease and trickled over the line. Paquette tallied his second of the game with the empty netter with 18.6 seconds left to seal the victory for Guelph.
