Brantford BulldogsBulldogs rally past the Kingston Frontenacs in overtime

Bulldogs LW Nick Lardis scored in the dying seconds of overtime to help Brantford defeat the Kingston Frontenacs 4-3 on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

After the first seven-plus minutes of the game in a deadlock, the Bulldogs opened the scoring when LW Cole Brown fed the puck to D Owen Protz, whose shot from the Kingston blue line got through the right pad of G Nolan Lalonde for the early 1-0 lead.

The Frontenacs tied the game with 6:31 left in the opening frame after Frontenacs C Cedrick Guindon scored on a shot through a screen in front of the Brantford goal, only to be redirected by the skate of Bulldogs D Lucas Moore and past the right pad of G Ryerson Leenders.

Kingston took the lead for the first time just over ninety seconds into the second period when Frontenacs LW Ethan Miedema skated the puck into the Bulldogs zone and ripped a shot past Leenders for the 2-1 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the game when C Jake O’Brien scored his fifth goal of the season on a rebound shot from LW Luca Testa to knot things at two but Kingston regained their one-goal with 6:36 left in the middle frame on a goal from Kingston D Vann Williamson.

The score remained 3-2 in favour of the visitors before the Bulldogs top line went to work. Dogs C Patrick Thomas and RW Calvin Crombie set up Lardis, who fired the puck past Lalonde to tie things at three and sending the game to the extra period.

In overtime, the dynamic Lardis-Thomas connection delivered again. In the closing seconds of the extra frame, Thomas skated to the Kingston zone, shelved the puck through the Frontenacs defenders and right onto the stick of Lardis, who made no mistake for his tenth of the year as they Dogs skated to the 4-3 overtime victory.
