Local NewsCity and partners to provide free inclusion training

The City of Brantford is partnering with WAKING THE unCONSCIOUS (WtC) to provide free inclusion training to leaders and volunteers from local child serving clubs, activities and groups, and to host inclusive activities through free local events for children ages 0 to 14.

The initiative titled B United kicks off with the first event taking place on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Main Branch of the Brantford Public Library.

The B United Kickoff Event aims to bring community members from different cultural backgrounds together. There will be face painting for children ages 0 to 6, robotics for children ages 7 to 11, and Indigenous crafts for those ages 12 to 14. Registration is encouraged online at Brantford.ca/BUnited.

The free inclusion training will be available to 200 leaders and volunteers at no cost. The training will be two sessions with an introduction to understanding systemic racism and practical information where groups and associations can identify gaps within their business, polices and organizational culture and learn strategies to become more inclusive and equitable. To sign up for the free workshop training sessions, please visit bit.ly/BUnitedTraining.

The B United campaign is part of the City’s Inclusive Community Plan that includes three guiding principles:

  • Learn from each other
  • Stand up for each other
  • Celebrate each other

Future WtC children’s events will be held between November 2024 and October 2025. Announcements for all upcoming events can be found on the City of Brantford website and the City of Brantford’s social media channels. To learn more about the project, and to subscribe to be the first to know about upcoming events, visit Brantford.ca/BUnited.
