Local NewsCity announces opening of new child care centre

City of Brantford announced the opening of Central Baptist Children’s Centre, a new child care centre located in Brantford on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

Central Baptist Children’s Centre will provide 48 licensed child care spaces for families in the community and will be hosting a grand opening event at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, attendees can take part in a tour of the new daycare facilities.

“We are excited to begin this exciting journey of bringing quality care and early education to children and families in our community. We thank all of our partners, supporters, and the community for their support and look forward to offering a space in the community where children can learn, grow and thrive,” said Danielle Wells, Director and Supervisor of Central Baptist Children’s Centre.

This new centre is part of the 985 new child care spaces allocated to the City of Brantford and County of Brant to open between 2022 and 2026 as part of the Building Our Community from the Kids Up,  Brantford-Brant 10 Year Child Care and Early Learning Plan, and the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) initiative that aims to provide affordable and accessible child care for families.

“The opening of these new child care spaces is an exciting step forward in ensuring families have access to affordable and quality child care in our community. Having adequate child care allows parents to work or pursue their education with peace of mind. I want to thank Central Baptist Children’s Centre, City staff and all those who worked diligently to make this possible,” added Kevin Davis, Mayor for the City of Brantford.

Since 2022, 243 new community-based spaces for children ages 0-5 years old have been added throughout the City of Brantford and County of Brant. These spaces have been achieved through the opening of the new centres in Brantford and the County of Brant, expansions of rooms at existing child care centres, and opening new home-based licensed spaces. In addition, 413 community-based spaces as well as 329 full day school-based child care spaces at the following schools, are set to open within the next three years:

  • Banbury Heights Public Elementary School
  • Cobblestone Public Elementary School
  • The new West Brant Public Elementary School
  • Sainte-Marguerite-Bourgeoys Catholic Elementary School
  • St. Padre Pio Catholic Secondary School

Local families can apply to Central Baptist Children’s Centre or other licensed child care through OneList Brantford-Brant. Families can apply to as many centres as they like with one account, as well as browse for locations on a map, learn about each child care centre, and determine if they offer lower fees through CWELCC. The City also continues to provide child care fee subsidy for eligible families who are working or in school. Details are available at Brantford.ca/ChildrensServices
