City of BrantfordCity issues statement supporting Mayor Kevin Davis

City of Brantford issued a statement supporting Mayor Kevin Davis after he announced his decision to complete his term on council, rescinding his intent to resign from earlier this month.

“The City of Brantford stands firmly behind Mayor Kevin Davis’ decision to complete his term in office. This thoughtful decision, made after extensive consultation with his family, members of the community and City staff, reaffirms his commitment to the best interests of Brantford, its residents, and City staff,” said the release, issued by Maria Visocchi, Director of Communications, Community Engagement and Customer Service for the City of Brantford. “Mayor Davis has chosen to sacrifice his personal career aspirations to avoid the financial burden and operational disruption that a by-election would impose on the City of Brantford. Mayor Davis recognizes that the projected cost of over $600,000 and the lengthy process extending to January 2025 would be a significant strain on the taxpayers and resources of City staff.”

The statement continued, “We commend Mayor Davis’ dedication to key initiatives such as the Sports and Entertainment Centre, the affordable housing strategy, advocacy for a new hospital, and the timely approval of the City’s 2025 budget. His leadership is essential to the advancement of these critical projects, and his decision to complete his term ensures that these priorities remain on track. We also appreciate the Mayor’s concerns about harassment faced by City officials and his resolve to be a strong advocate and defender for City staff. The City of Brantford remains steadfast in our commitment to the health and safety of City staff and will not tolerate any form of harassment or bullying directed towards municipal employees.”

“We extend our gratitude to Mayor Davis for his continued dedication and leadership and look forward to working together to achieve the objectives set forth by this term of Council.”
