City of Brantford launches new hospital campaign

City of BrantfordCity of Brantford launches new hospital campaign

City of Brantford launched a “New Hospital Now” campaign on Monday, November 18, 2024.

The campaign is designed to advocate and urge the Premier and the Ontario Ministry of Health to prioritize funding in the 2025 Ontario Budget for a new hospital facility in Brantford.

In the past five years, Brantford General Hospital’s catchment area, including Brantford, the County of Brant, Six Nations of the Grand River, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, has grown by nearly 11 per cent, with population growth continuing to accelerate. New residents are increasingly choosing Brantford and surrounding communities as their home; however, the existing hospital is not equipped to support the healthcare needs of this expanding population.

A new healthcare facility would offer:

  • Improved access to healthcare services for all residents
  • Modern equipment and facilities to deliver the highest quality of care
  • Expanded capacity to accommodate a growing community
  • Enhanced emergency services to reduce wait times

The “New Hospital Now” campaign invites community members to get involved in the following ways:

Residents can pick up a free “New Hospital Now” lawn sign while quantities last, at the following City locations to show their support for a new hospital in Brantford:

  • Brantford City Hall, 58 Dalhousie St. Monday – Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
  • Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, 254 N Park St. Monday – Sunday from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

“New Hospital Now” Petitions

Show your support by signing both a hard copy and online petition to the Ontario Ministry of Health. Paper petitions are available at all lawn sign locations, and an online petition is also easily accessible at brantford.ca/NewHospitalNOW.

Help spread the word by posting about the campaign on social media using the hashtag #NewHospitalNow. Video frames will be available at each sign pick-up facility for residents who wish to record and share their support.

“The need for a new hospital in Brantford is absolutely critical as the current hospital facility lacks the capacity to serve a rapidly growing population. Our local healthcare professionals go above and beyond every day to serve our community with compassion and excellence,” said Councillor Dan McCreary, Chair of the recently established Brantford Hospital Working Group. “They deserve modern, well-equipped facilities to provide the level of care Brantford and our surrounding communities desperately need. I also want to stress that we are grateful for the hard work that Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma is doing to advocate for this essential project and we are fully committed to supporting him in this effort. I encourage all residents to join us in this urgent appeal to the Ontario government to include a new Brantford hospital in Ontario’s 2025 budget.”
