City of Brantford launches Senior Art Series program

Arts and EntertainmentCity of Brantford launches Senior Art Series program

City of Brantford, in collaboration with local artists, announced the launch of the first Seniors Art Series initiative on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

This series aims to showcase local talent while offering older adults ages 55 and up an opportunity to engage in hands-on, creative expression.

The series features four free programs designed to encourage older adults to explore their creative side through various art forms. All materials will be provided and no prior experience is required to participate.

Creative Collaging takes place on Tuesday, February 18 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre, 491 Grey St. Create unique personal collages using a variety of materials in a relaxed, judgment-free environment. Learn about the significance of woodland woman paintings while enjoying a relaxing and creative atmosphere at Creating a Masterpiece on Thursday, February 27 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre. 

“I am eager to collaborate with the City of Brantford to provide space to discuss the meaning behind woodlands woman paintings and help seniors create their own artistic masterpiece,” said Alicia-Lynn Morin, a local Indigenous artist, “Programs like this, that focus on art and community engagement, are incredibly beneficial to our aging population.”

Watercolour Bookmarks takes place on Monday, March 3 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Woodman Park Community Centre where participants will create beautiful watercolour bookmarks. Take part in gentle fitness moves, line dancing, and enhance your movement skills while singing along to hits from Elvis, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond, the Beatles, CCR, and popular movie tunes at CROONERcize on Wednesday, March 5 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at T.B Costain – SC Johnson Community, 16 Morrell St.
