The City of Brantford was recognized with an impressive four (out of a possible five) Blooms in the 2024 Communities in Bloom Ontario competition.

In her evaluation, judge Kathy Smyth praised the City’s unique floral displays.

“Brantford’s parks, trails and floral displays were exceptionally well designed and maintained,” said Kathy Smyth, Communities in Bloom Judge. “One park in particular that really stood out was the Children’s Memorial Garden, surrounded by beautiful pollinator gardens and benches that allowed space for people to sit and reflect in a peaceful setting. The City of Brantford is quite unique in its floral presentations which are seldom seen anywhere else in Canada.”

Communities in Bloom judges visited Brantford in early August to evaluate the community including a variety of locations for several key criteria as part of the competition including tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, landscape, urban forestry, and floral displays. Organizers showcased the City of Brantford to the judges during a three-day tour that included visits to the Bell Homestead, Brantford Fire Station #2, Bell Memorial, Brant County War Memorial, Brantford City Hall, Children’s Memorial Garden, Dufferin Park, Glenhyrst Gardens, Harmony Square, Lorne Park, Woodland Cultural Centre and more.

“The City is proud of the results received in the Communities in Bloom competition that highlights our commitment to excellence,” said Kimberley Wyskiel, Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Brantford. “We are very grateful to the teams of local volunteers and City staff whose time and effort contribute to creating and maintaining impressive and beautiful parks and gardens throughout Brantford that residents can be proud of and enjoy.”
