Brantford Fire Department responded to a call after a fire broke out at Rosewood House on Tuesday, September 17, 2024,

There were 40 residents and three staff members on site at the time of the fire.

According to Tim Philips, Executive Director of Rosewood House, all residents have been accommodated in area hotels and motels. Staff are providing medication support and meals to all clients displaced. Rosewood is working with the City of Brantford, and local social service agencies to ensure the welfare of all residents.

The fire, which began in the kitchen, caused extensive damage to the kitchen-area only but demolition of the fire-damaged parts of the building started Thursday morning and should be done quickly.

“The replacement of the kitchen and other fire-damaged areas will take some considerable time. Unfortunately, the extent of the smoke-damage has yet to be determined because of the complex nature of such damage. Surveys are underway to determine the best way to mitigate, repair, and clean these areas,” said Philips.

The Nelson Street complex will be out of operation for, at least, several months but Rosewood will continue to work with vulnerable populations throughout the municipality.
