Funds raised from OPP officer memorial run goes to scholarship

Local NewsFunds raised from OPP officer memorial run goes to scholarship

The Ontario Provincial Police hosted a memorial run for Const. Greg Pierzchala in May, raising nearly $20,000 to establish a scholarship in his name.

Pierzchala was killed in the line of duty last December while responding to a crash near Hagersville.

The scholarship will be awarded to students of St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School in Barrie, where Pierzchala attended.

A portion of the funds raised will also go to Greg’s hometown church, Holy Spirit Parish in Barrie.

Pierzchala’s sister Justyna said they hope this run will turn into an annual event.
