EducationGEDSB releases EQAO provincial test results

Grand Erie District School Board (GEDSB) released their EQAO provincial test results on Monday, September 30, 2024.

The school board announced that math scores for Grade 3, 6 and 9 students increased for the third year in a row.

“We’re proud of the learning progress made by students and staff as part of our ongoing  system-wide learning,” said Susan Gibson, Chair of GEDSB. “These results reflect the hard work of our students and staff and the support of families.”

Highlights of Grand Erie’s EQAO results over three years include:

• Grade 3 math results increased by 5 per cent

• Grade 6 math results increased by 7 per cent

• Grade 9 math results increased by 2 per cent

• OSSLT academic results align with provincial averages (90%)

“On behalf of the Senior Leadership team, the results show continued growth in Grand Erie’s  journey of academic excellence. With a collective effort by educators, administrators,  instructional coaches, support staff, system staff and leaders. They’re to be commended for  their outstanding commitment to student achievement every day in classrooms across the  district,” said JoAnna Roberto, Director of Education. “We’ll continue to focus on innovative strategies and professional learning opportunities centrally and school-based to cultivate an environment where all students reach their full potential.”

Grand Erie continues to focus on early reading and mathematics with an emphasis on  ‘knowing the learner.’ The board aims to ensure instructional strategies and assessment tools enable educators to understand and adapt to their students’ individual strengths and needs.

The 2023-24 Annual Learning and Operating Plan continues to be responsive to student  learning and includes specific strategies to improve learning results in early literacy, math,  and graduation pathways.

“These are the results of a focused approach to curriculum and foundational skills responsive to student needs for them to succeed. The data insights will guide our work to improve further,” explained Lisa Munro, Superintendent of Curriculum and Student Achievement.
