Lafarge Canada Inc. has been recognized by the Ontario Stone, Sand and Gravel Association (OSSGA) with the Progressive Rehabilitation Award for its comprehensive restoration efforts at the Brantford Pit.
The rehabilitation award recognizes the ongoing efforts of individual operators to progressively rehabilitate their sites per their site plans. The project aimed to stabilize former extraction areas while enhancing local biodiversity and ensuring long-term sustainability. The rehabilitation process involved extensive re-grading to establish stable, gradual slopes, reducing the risk of erosion and improving safety. By integrating sustainable practices into its rehabilitation plan, Lafarge Canada has successfully created an environment that will support diverse plant and animal life for years to come.
