Aspiring leaders are invited to join us for an active weekend of hands-on learning! Our Leader in Training Program provides teens with the opportunity to develop skills, build confidence, and gain experience that will help them become effective leaders in camp and childcare settings.

The weekend will introduce young people to leadership in a fun and engaging environment. Led by our summer camp senior staff, sessions will include team building, positive group and behaviour management, effective communication, conflict resolution, risk awareness, and an introduction to program facilitation. On the Sunday of the program, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a rafting trip from Five Oaks to Brant Park.

In addition to the weekend training, this program also includes the opportunity to earn at least 40 volunteer hours. (Please note that participants must be available to volunteer for at least 5 consecutive days/one full week from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. between July 2 – August 23. Scheduled volunteering dates will be confirmed before the end of June in consultation with the participant.)

As volunteers, LIT program participants will be supervised by the camp senior staff, and will:
• Job shadow a camp counsellor as they deliver fun and safe programming for campers ages 5 – 11
• Support campers in varied activities, like hiking, creek exploration, shelter building, crafting, and more
• Practice and develop leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills while working closely with camp staff and campers
• Participate in the camp rafting trip on the Grand River

After successfully completing their volunteer hours, program participants will be provided with a Five Oaks Leadership Certificate and letter of recommendation from staff.

The experience gained through this program will be useful for those seeking new volunteer or paid opportunities, at Five Oaks or elsewhere.
