Participation Support Services is inviting the public to join in for its annual golf tournament at Burford Golf Links on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Registration will begin at 10:00 a.m. and golfers will kick off the 18-hole scramble style tournament at 11:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
The Participation Support Services (PSS) fundraising tournament is held every year in an effort to raise essential funds and awareness for the local organization.
“A lot of the proceeds will go directly towards resident support as well as recreation so they can go to a Blue Jays game and things like that,” said Doug Hunt, Director of Marketing, Fundraising and Volunteers for PSS. “There’s not a lot of money from the government leftover and so all the fundraising and everything else I do, is to help directly support the residents.”
Hunt said that the $150 cost per person to play will include a golf cart, green fees, and dinner.
Throughout the event, players will have the chance to participate in an arm’s-length raffle, a “Happy Gilmore” putting contest with Joshua Wall and Jeff Meiusi, and of course, four awards will also be up for grabs for competitions like closest to the hole and most accurate drive.
“For the raffle, we’ve got a lot of great golf related prizes that have been graciously donated by our sponsors and even some of the participants,” said Hunt. “For the four competition winners, they’ll get a plaque award and a little prize as well.
While the big golf tournament is quickly approaching, Hunt said there is still time and room to sign up for the big event.
“We’re always looking for teams, you can never get enough,” he laughed. “I’m hoping that we reach 80 golfers, so we’ve got lots of room for teams to sign up. We’re also looking for hole sponsors if anyone is interested. It’s $150 to sponsor and that includes a displayed golf sign.”
For anyone looking to participate, donate prizes or sponsor, they can visit https://www.pssbrantford.org/, or reach out via email at dhunt@pssbrantford.org
Overall, Hunt said the event is all about having fun.
“It’s not about winning, though we do have trophies, but it’s more about having a fun day for a good cause,” he said. “A lot of the people that come out are people who support us all year round and they’re our friends and so that’s why it’s only $150 and the only extra is the raffle, because they already do a lot for us. We would love to have some other people come out and join us in the fun.”
