In a heartwarming display of unity and pride, the five Brantford Probus clubs gathered together in Harmony Square for a flagraising ceremony on Friday, October 11, 2024.
Adding a sense of tradition and flair to the occasion, Brantford’s Town Crier, David McKee, rang his bell and bellowed for all to hear that we gathered not just to raise a flag, but to reaffirm our commitment to the ideals Probus represents. His enthusiasm set a joyful tone for the morning.
Mike Wyatt, President of the Men’s Probus Club of Brantford, drew applause and cheers from the gathered crowd as he raised the flag. City Councillor Dan McCreary expressed his admiration for the club’s shared values and the significance of the flag. Regional Probus Director Donna Potoczek spoke on behalf of Probus Canada.
Probus is an acronym for Pro(fessional) and Bus(iness) reflecting the organization’s initial objectives. The Probus clubs of Brantford provide fellowship, friendship and enjoyment for men and women in their retirement and semi-retirement years. There are currently over 4,000 Probus clubs worldwide with over 250 active clubs in Canada and over 37,600 members. Each Probus club is autonomous but is coordinated through Probus Canada.
Probus Clubs emphasize a simple structure, are free of the constraints and obligations of service clubs and involve members in a minimal cost. The club is directed primarily to providing fellowship between members who are compatible with each other and the opportunity for friendships.
The newly raised flag gives the members a sense of pride and companionship and marks a successful event that brings the community closer together.
