Brantford Red SoxRed Sox name Jeff Lounsbury as General Manager

Brantford Red Sox announced the hiring of Jeff Lounsbury as the team’s new General Manager on Thursday, March 6, 2025.

A respected leader in Canadian baseball, Lounsbury brings a wealth of experience and success to the organization as he takes the helm of the Red Sox front office.

Lounsbury joins Brantford after two seasons as the General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs and four seasons in the same role with the Hamilton Cardinals, where he led both teams to key playoff milestones. His extensive baseball resume also includes an illustrious 20-year coaching career at Brock University, where he cemented his legacy as one of the winningest coaches in Canadian university baseball.

During his tenure, Lounsbury guided the Brock Badgers to two CIBA National Championships (1998, 1999), four OUA Championships (2002, 2004, 2010, 2014), and six OUA regular season titles, while earning three OUA Coach of the Year honours (2005, 2012, 2014). His contributions to the sport were recognized with his induction into the Niagara Falls Sports Hall of Fame in 2016.

In addition to his time at Brock, Lounsbury has been a familiar name in the Intercounty Baseball League (IBL), having spent years coaching with franchises in Hamilton and Burlington. Now, he returns to the Red Sox organization with a clear vision and strong desire to help restore the team to championship form.

“I am looking forward to this tremendous opportunity with such a franchise with a great history. The Brantford Red Sox and Alfie Payne and Mike Calbeck had a lot to do with my first job in the IBL in 1999, and coaching against Paul Aucoin’s dynasty years and those great players are some of my greatest memories. Now, with Terry Smith and his great passion and vision, I only hope to do my best in helping this franchise back to the top,” said Lounsbury.

New Red Sox owner Terry Smith expressed his excitement about bringing Lounsbury into the organization.

“The Red Sox and I are very fortunate to have Jeff joining us as our General Manager. He is a fantastic man as a human being, and we are very honoured to have him with us at the Red Sox. Jeff has an incredible amount of experience in the IBL at every level, including many years as a coach and six seasons as the general manager of other IBL clubs. Therefore, he knows every detail of how we can build a Red Sox team that everyone in Brantford will be proud of and that will be very successful,” said Smith. “Jeff also knows what it takes to win, as shown by the tremendous success and all the championships he won during his 20 years as the head coach of Brock University. Jeff has dedicated a very large part of his life to baseball, and I am very excited, very grateful, and very honoured that we have someone who is so honest, talented, successful, thoughtful, kind, and knowledgeable as our Red Sox General Manager.”

Lounsbury steps into the role with an understanding of the tradition and expectations surrounding the Brantford Red Sox, one of the IBL’s most storied franchises. His leadership, experience, and commitment to building winning programs make him a perfect fit as the Red Sox look to re-establish themselves as championship contenders.
