Six Nations of the Grand River Elected Council (SNGREC), in partnership with Ontario Works and the Six Nations Food Bank, will host a Community Holiday Food Drive-Thru Giveaway to support working families in need during the holiday season on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.
The event, which will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run while supplies last, will take place at the Community Hall Parking Lot. Enter at Lawrence Jonathan Lane because the main entrance will be closed. It is also important to note that this giveaway is for community members on the Territory. Proof of status and address will be necessary.
As part of this initiative, community members will be able to pick up a turkey or ham, and a 10-pound bag of potatoes, while supplies last.
“Council wants to do what we can to help support families in need,” said Sherri-Lyn Hill, Elected Chief for Six Nations of the Grand River.
The initiative follows a motion passed by the Elected Council on December 12 with a budget of up to $25,000. We were able to purchase 200 turkeys, 300 hams, and 500 ten-pound bags of potatoes for distribution. This is part of the Elected Council’s ongoing efforts to alleviate the burdens many families face during the holidays, offering a sense of relief and support when it’s needed most.
SNGREC expresses gratitude to all the organizations involved in bringing this initiative to life. Chief Hill also highlighted the importance of community together during this time of year.
